The servants of Quorn Hall – 1906

The Warner family purchased Quorn Hall in 1855 and lived there until 1919. In 1906 the twenty-six servants employed at the hall presented a certificate and ‘coming of age’ gift to Christopher Brooks Warner, the youngest child of Edward Handley Warner and his wife Jessie. The certificate listed all twenty-six of their names, although with only initials for the forenames.

The attached pdf document contains not only a photograph of the historic certificate, but also details of those servants that could be identified. In addition it includes five photographs of the hall, three of which are a group of eight servants taken around the same time (between 1905 and 1909), which help to bring the servants to life.

Thanks to Chris and Peter Warner, grandsons of Christopher Brooks Warner for the certificate. For more information about the Warner family, see Artefact 2591.
