HMS Quorn bell - Ella Morag Stewart, baptism

The bell of the Navy’s HMS Quorn was donated to Quorn village when the ship was decommissioned in 2017. Prior to this there was a practice for some babies to be baptised under the ship's bell and for the child's name to be inscribed inside the bell. More details can be found in Artefact 2550, where we also asked for anyone whose name was engraved on the bell to get in touch.

The museum team was thrilled when Ella Stewart from Aberdeen emailed and very kindly supplied her HMS Quorn baptism certificate. Ella was christened on board HMS Quorn on the 5th September 1999. Her father, Douglas Robert Stewart, who passed away in 2008, was a Chief Petty Officer Diver (mine clearance) in the Royal Navy from 1980 to 2004.
