Quorn Fancy Dress parade and dance 1919

On Saturday afternoon a fancy dress parade took place, the object being to assist in raising a fund for the benefit of the nine or ten disabled soldiers in the village. A number of people have interested themselves in this matter, and a committee numbering 25 representatives of discharged soldiers and residents have arranged a series of events in order to provide a substantial fund for he benefit of the more unfortunate of their comrades.
The parade of Saturday was well patronised. From a spectacular point of view, it was not quite so attractive as some that have been held. There were quite a good number of pretty and unique individual character represented. The larger tableaux were not so numerous. Assembling at the Village Hall, and headed by the Mountsorrel Brass Band, a tour of village was made.
The awards were as follows: Vehicles group: Wounded soldiers and pierrot group mounted, Lady Godiva, Miss Benskin; rags and bones, Misses Wisehall and Wesley. Consolation prizes: Peace emblem, Miss Atkin, and the last pivotal man demobilised, Geo. Horspool. Messrs S J Wright, G White and E C Laundon officiated as judges.
The collection taken on the route of the procession amounted to about £20. In the evening a dance was held at the Village Hall, when a large number was present. Mr R Wood officiated as MC and music was supplied by Mr C Disney and Mr J H Chapman who gave their services free as did the band for the parade. The secretary for the fund is Mr G Harris.
