Cottage on High Street
This photograph is lodged with the record office in Leicester. The map handwritten on the back indicates that the cottage was located on the High Street, church side and was demolished in or about 1963. This row of cottages was on the east side of the High Street opposite The White Hart.
Anthony Cove has informed us that The rent on the left hand cottage was 1s.9d. per week [9p. todays money] in the 1940s.
Sue Sharpe says that this photo was of the cottages next to The Banks. The cottage on the right with the white door was occupied by Miss Sutton and Miss Sturman. Both were teachers at Quorn Primary School. Miss Sturman died quite suddenly (aged about 55) whilst still teaching at the school in the 1960s. Her place was taken by Mrs Eleanor Lancashire, who later remarried to Professor Freshwater.
