Attempted Murder
Freeman's Journal - 1st February 1838
Friday, the chapelry of Quorndon, Leicester, was thrown into great excitement, owing to a man named William Thompson, a wood cutter, attempting to take the life of his wife. In the forenoon he threatened to chop her down with his axe, and soon after dinner carried this threat into execution. The wretch struck at her head, but she perceiving his intention warded off the blow in some measure, which passed down the side of it, nearly cutting off her ear, and making a considerable wound in her neck. Thompson was soon afterwards secured, and lodged in the Loughborough house of detention. The poor woman is considered to be in great danger.
