Postcard of Chaveney Road, Quorn
This house is now 45 Chaveney Road on the corner almost opposite Buddon Lane. The name 'Cheveney Lodge' (sic) is still above the door.
The photographer was William Shuttlewood who lived in Quorn with his wife and three children for a relatively short period -from about 1905 to about 1909. However he obviously enjoyed photography and Quorn owes him a great debt for the wonderful pictures he took at this time. Many examples of his work can be found in the collection and his full story is told elsewhere on the site.
The card is not posted, but on the back in a child's writing says "to Auntie Bee, love from Bessie"
The people in the photograph are the Dakin family. The 1911 census records the Dakin family living at Chaveney Lodge. They are Henry (67), Elizabeth (50) and John Henry (20) their son. The return indicates another (living) child, who was not sleeping there on the census night. Further research revealed this to be Bessie. From their ages, the photograph would seem to have been taken in 1906/1907.
