The Vicarage, Quorn 1906
This is a side view of what was the vicarage in 1906. It is now (2025) in the grounds of Rawlins Academy. The vicar at the time was Edward Foord-Kelcey who was the vicar of Quorn from 1892 to 1909. The lady standing in the doorway (see enlargement) is his wife, Frances Louisa Kelcey nee Rolleston, who he married in 1895. Frances was a botanist, and the late Peter Gamble told the museum team that she was responsible for planting the crocuses in front of the vicarage, that still provide a stunning display each springtime.
The postcard was written by Edward Foord-Kelcey in June 1906 and addressed to 11 year Bessie Dakin at Cheveney (sic) Lodge, Quorn. This is now 45 Chaveney Road – for more information about Bessie and her family see Artefact 2631.
On the back it says:
“I have no doubt you will be able to help with the sale on June 20th.
I shall be able to tell you more in a day or two. With love from EFK
