The Little Green, Quorn – Then and Now
Although the old postcard (about 1910) is entitled ‘Cross Brook, Quorn’, the stream is what we know today as Buddon Brook. The grassy area is now Quorn Memorial Gardens (on Quorn Cross), then called the ‘Little Green’, as it was before WW1. In the background on the right-hand side is Meeting Street.
This area and the whole of Quorn Cross used to flood frequently, but since flood prevention measures were put in place, serious flooding has been much reduced.
The older photograph was taken in about 1910 by Francis William Scarratt of Derby, who is famous in postcard circles for his postcards with decorated borders. On the back is printed C Gamble, Quorn. This was Charles Gamble who had a newsagents shop on Station Road and sold a range of these cards.
