Frederick Penfold, Quorn stonemason

Frederick Richard Penfold was a stonemason who had his business in Quorn.

He married Selina Gumley from Quorn in 1897 and they had three daughters and a son. By 1921 the family are living at 9 Nursery Lane, from where Frederick is running his business as a stonemason. He passed on his skills to his son Jack, who initially worked with his father and finished his career working for Collin Brothers of Loughborough.

Frederick died in 1934 aged only 63. The family continued to live at 9 Nursery Lane, at least until Jack’s death in 1983. Many examples of Frederick’s work can be seen in Quorn Churchyard.

Below is one of Frederick Penfold’s business cards.
