Quorn in Australia
Did you know that there is a ‘Quorn’ in South Australia? This small township which is more than 10,000 miles from Quorn in Leicestershire, developed in the 1870s as a result of the coming of the railways. The town was named ‘Quorn’ in 1878 after the home of John Henry Boyer Warner, who lived at Quorn Hall in our village. John Warner was Private Secretary to the then Governor of South Australia, Sir William Jervois.
Today, Quorn in Australia has a population of about 1,300 people. By coincidence it is famous for its preserved steam railway. The small town is the terminus of the Pichi Richi Railway which is run by the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society, a non-profit group managed and staffed by volunteers.
