Card from Quorn Prisoner of War Camp to Germany, 3rd June 1946

Quorn POW camp was based in the grounds of Quorn House and the entrance was on Wood Lane, where Northage Close is today. This site had been occupied earlier in the war by the American 82nd Airborne Division, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

This card was sent by Obergefreiter (Lance Corporal) Hans Jacobson who was a German prisoner of war in the camp. He sent the card in June 1946 to his parents in Thaden in Germany

Sarah Taylor, one of the on-line museum’s Facebook friends, has very kindly provided a translation:

"Dear parents.
The best wishes for Pentecost sends to you your son Hans. I hope that you spend the Pentecost holiday in good health. Greetings to Emma and the little Christa"
