Temperance Society
A public meeting of the above society was held on Wednesday October 1st, in the Primitive Methodist Chapel, the Rev W J Stayne in the chair, when a large number of members and friends were present. The Chairman, in opening the meeting, gave several instances of depravity caused through drunkenness and urges all present to aid in spreading a cause which was so adapted to remove the great enemy of man, drink; after which addresses were delivered by Messrs Bennett, Phipps, Herbert, and Collins; recitations by Miss Ward and Mr Martin; and readings by Mr Murphy, Master H Ford and W Fewkes. Several pieces were sung by the Band of Hope and a very pleasant evening was spent
