Map of Quorn, 1950s
This map was originally 2.5 inches to the mile. The team only had a portion of it, so although it was known that the map was over 50 years old, the exact date was uncertain. Later - from various features, including some of those listed below - it was possible to match it to a 1955 map on www.old-maps.co.uk:
a) The bold black dashed line shows the parish boundary.
b) Unitt Road is shown, but not as a fully completed street.
c) Interestingly the old military/POW camp buildings can be seen on the Farnham estate off Wood Lane.
d) Northage Close, Paddock Close and the Warwick Avenue estate do not exist.
e) The Grange on Wood Lane is shown as its original name of Woodside
d) The South-West side of Cradock Drive does not appear to be built
f) Orchard Estate seems to exist, The first houses were built in 1936.
g) The bypass doesn’t exist, and looking at the junction of Barrow Road with Meynell Road and the road off to Barrow; the difference when compared to how it is today, is remarkable.
