Pig roasting attracted 300

Pig-roasting at a barbeque in the grounds of Quorn House, on Friday, attracted a crowd of 300. On Saturday a garden fete was opened by Colonel W.S.N. Toller, a former president of Quorn British Legion. The two efforts organised by the Quorn branch of the British Legion raised a gross total of £143.

After the garden fete had been opened a strawberry and cream tea was served on the terrace of Quorn House, home of Mr and Mrs E.G. Farnham by committee members.

Competition winners were Mr J Boyer, Mrs Upsher, Mr Witherbed, Miss J Pidcock, Mrs Slinsby, Miss P.M. Street. Dog show winners: best dog in the show was owned by Mr Oliver Brookshaw, 2 Mrs Theobald. Dog in best condition was owned by Miss L Facer, second was Mr John Belton.

Stallholders: treasure hunt, Mr J.C Vanderfeltz and John Farnham; music Mr G.E. Overland; roll-a-penny, Peter Cottle; needlework, Mrs N Tatham and Mrs E Marshall; produce, Mrs Belton; minerals, Mrs O Brewin; bottle, Mr Tatham; penny-in-the-bath, Mrs Hopkins; cakes, Miss I Wheldon and Miss Brookman; skittles, Mr Stocks and Mr Rudkin; refreshments, Mrs F Joiner, Mrs A Wesley, Mrs M Armston and Mrs A Wallace
